What Is Stamping Process in Sheet Metal?

Sheet metal stamping is a metal processing technology that uses stamping equipment to plastically deform metal sheets to obtain parts of specific shapes and sizes. Its basic process includes:

1. Material preparation: Select suitable metal sheets, such as steel, aluminum (aluminum stamping), copper (custom copper stamping), brass (brass stampings wholesale), etc., and cut them into the required size according to design requirements. Different material properties (such as lightweight aluminum, conductivity of copper, corrosion resistance of brass) determine their application scenarios.

2. Mold design and manufacturing: Make the upper mold (convex mold) and lower mold (concave mold) according to the shape of the part. The mold accuracy directly affects the quality of the finished product. For custom copper stamping projects, the mold needs to be personalized according to the drawings or samples provided by the customer to ensure the size and performance requirements.

3. Stamping processing: Place the sheet between the molds through a press and apply pressure to deform it. Common processes include:

○ Punching: Cut the sheet to form holes or separate parts (such as aluminum radiator grilles).

○ Bending: bending the sheet into a specific angle (such as a brass decorative frame).

○ Stretching: pressing the sheet into a die to form a hollow structure (such as a copper electrical connector housing).

○ Flanging: forming a bulge or curling along the edge (such as aluminum housing reinforcement ribs).

4. Subsequent processing: may include deburring, surface treatment (spraying, plating), welding or assembly. When wholesale brass stamping parts, automated production lines are often used to improve efficiency and strict quality inspections are performed to ensure batch consistency; customized copper stamping requires flexible adjustment of process parameters to meet small batches and high precision requirements.

The sheet metal stamping process is widely used in the fields of automobile manufacturing, home appliance housings, electronic product housings, etc., with the advantages of high production efficiency, stable precision, high material utilization and low cost. Pay attention to equipment safety protection during operation to prevent mechanical damage during the stamping process.
