As a versatile material, nylon is widely used in many industries. The following are some common nylon application industries:
When it comes to CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining of nylon, here are four advantages of CNC machining for nylon:
High Precision Machining: precision CNC machining enables highly accurate dimensional and shape machining. With the control system programmed in advance, CNC nylon machines can precisely control the movement and positioning of cutting tools, resulting in highly accurate dimensions and shapes. This is particularly important for custom nylon parts and components that require high precision and precise fit with other parts.
Complex Structure Machining: CNC nylon machining technology allows for the machining of complex structures in nylon. Due to the ability of CNC machines to achieve multi-axis motion and rotation through precise control, it becomes effortless to achieve machining of complex shapes and structures. This flexibility makes CNC machining including 5 axis CNC machining an ideal choice for manufacturing intricate nylon parts and components, such as gears, threads, and curved shapes.
Automated Production: Nylon CNC machining is an automated production method that allows for batch production of nylon. Once the program is written and the machine is set up, operators can leave it running without constant manual intervention. This nylon machinability improves production efficiency while reducing the risk of human errors.
Repetition and Consistency: CNC machining of custom nylon excels in achieving repetitive and consistent products. Once the programmed instructions are loaded into the CNC machine, it can repeatedly produce identical nylon machined parts, ensuring consistent quality and dimensions for each part. This is crucial for large-scale production and applications that require consistent product quality.
High mechanical strength, good toughness, high tensile and compressive strength. The specific tensile strength is higher than that of metal, and the specific compressive strength is comparable to that of metal, but its rigidity is not as good as that of metal. The tensile strength is close to the yield strength, more than double that of CNC ABS. The CNC machining PA has strong absorption capacity for impact and stress vibration, and its impact strength is much higher than that of ordinary plastics, and it is better than acetal resin.
The fatigue resistance is outstanding, and the workpiece can still maintain the original mechanical strength after repeated bending. Common escalator handrails, new bicycle plastic rims, and other occasions where periodic fatigue is obvious are often used CNC PA.
High softening point and heat resistance (such as nylon 46, etc., high heat distortion temperature of high crystallinity CNC nylon, can be used for a long time at 150 degrees. After PA66 is reinforced with glass fiber, its heat distortion temperature can reach above 250 degrees).
Smooth surface, small friction coefficient, anti-wear. When used as a movable mechanical component, CNC machining nylon has self-lubricating properties and low noise. The machined nylon can be used without lubricant when the friction is not too high; if it is really necessary to use a lubricant to reduce friction or help heat dissipation, water, oil, grease, etc. can be selected. Therefore, as a transmission part, its service life is long.
Nylon plastic parts have excellent electrical properties. Good electrical insulation. CNC Nylon has high volume resistance and high breakdown voltage. In dry environment, the nylon part can be used as power frequency insulation material, and it still has good electrical insulation even in high humidity environments.
The machining plastic parts are light in weight, easy to dye and form. Fast flow due to low melt viscosity. It is easy to fill the mold, the freezing point is high after filling the mold, and it can be shaped quickly, so the molding cycle is short and the production efficiency is high.
Self-extinguishing, odorless, good weather resistance, inert to biological erosion, and good anti-mildew ability.
Polyamide is commonly known as nylon (Nylon), and the English name Polyamide (referred to as PA) refers to a plastic composed of polyamide resin. This kind of resin can be prepared by polycondensation of diamine and dibasic acid, or by ring-opening polymerization of lactam formed after dehydration of amino acid. Unlike PS, PE, PP, etc., CNC PA does not gradually change with the increase of heating temperature. Soften, but soften in a narrow temperature range close to the melting point, the melting point is obvious, melting point: 215-225 ° C. Flow occurs once the temperature is reached.
CNC Nylon engineering plastics are horny, tough, bright surface, white (or light white) or yellowish, transparent or translucent crystalline resin, which can be painted in any color easily. As an engineering plastic, the molecular weight of CNC machining nylon is generally 15,000-30,000. Their density is slightly greater than 1, density: 1.14-1.15g/cm3. Tensile strength: > 60.0MPa. Elongation: > 30 percent. Bending strength: 90.0MPa. Notched impact strength: (kJ/m2) > 5.
The shrinkage rate of machining nylon is 1 to 2. Pay attention to the dimensional change after moisture absorption after molding. Water absorption rate 100% can absorb 8% when relative moisture absorption is saturated. The use temperature can be between -40~105℃. Melting point: 215-225°C. The suitable wall thickness is 2-3.5mm. Among the mechanical properties of CNC machining PA, the tensile and compressive strength changes with temperature and moisture absorption, so water is relatively a plasticizer for PA. After adding glass fiber, its tensile and compressive strength can be improved About 2 times, the temperature resistance is also improved accordingly. CNC PA itself has very high anti-wear ability, so it can be operated without lubrication. If you want to obtain a special lubrication effect, you can add sulfide to PA.
Except for transparent nylon, other nylons are crystalline plastics with high melting points, narrow melting temperature ranges and poor thermal stability. CNC PA is easy to absorb moisture. During the molding process of CNC nylon, the viscosity drops sharply and silver threads appear on the surface of the product mixed with air bubbles, and the mechanical strength of the product decreases. Therefore, nylon plastic parts need to be dried before processing. The machinable nylon can be dried at 80-110°C for 6 hours. The allowable moisture content of nylon 6 and nylon 66 during molding is 0.1%, nylon 11 is 0.15%, nylon 610 is 0.1% to 0.15%, and shall not exceed 0.2%. Note that PA plastics are prone to discoloration when dried above 90°C.
PA has good fluidity and is easy to overflow. The CNC machining PA is suitable to use a self-locking nozzle and heat it. At the same time, due to the rapid condensation of the melt, it is necessary to prevent the material from blocking the nozzle, runner, gate, etc., causing insufficient products. The mold overflow value is 0.03, and the melt viscosity is sensitive to temperature and shear force changes, but it is more sensitive to temperature. To reduce the melt viscosity, start with the barrel temperature. The molding shrinkage range and shrinkage rate are large, the directionality is obvious, and shrinkage cavity and deformation are easy to occur. The use of custom nylon recycled materials can be no more than three times, so as not to cause discoloration of the product or a sharp drop in mechanical and physical properties. The application amount should be controlled below 25%. Too much will cause fluctuations in process conditions. Mixing of recycled materials and new materials needs to be carried out dry.
The difference between machining nylon 6 and machining nylon 66 is the difference in temperature resistance, impact resistance, dissolution resistance, and moisture absorption properties. The main difference between them is the difference in temperature resistance, impact resistance, dissolution resistance, and moisture absorption properties. Nylon 6 has a slightly lower temperature resistance than nylon 66. Nylon 66 parts has a higher temperature resistance. CNC machining nylon 6 has better impact resistance and dissolution resistance than nylon 66, and is also more hygroscopic. Nylon 6 is more absorbent than custom nylon 66. Nylon 6 has thermal stability, dimensional stability, high surface quality, and low warpage.
